Industry and labour market
There are about 7,400 private businesses in Frederiksberg, mainly in the service sector. They are typically small-scale undertakings with up to ten employees. The city is especially famous for its many small specialist shops and boutiques. By comparison with the rest of the country, a high number of Frederiksberg's citizens are employed in the service sector.
Education and research
Frederiksberg has eight primary and lower secondary schools and four upper secondary schools as well as a wide range of youth and adult education. No less than 70% of Frederiksberg's young people attend upper-secondary schools. Families with special needs are offered a broad spectrum of counselling, guidance and practical remedial measures.
Frederiksberg is renowned for its many research and educational institutions, such as the Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen (formerly known as the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University), the Copenhagen Business School, the Royal Military Academy housed in Frederiksberg Castle, the National Danish School of Social Work and the Frederiksberg College of Education.
Child care and schools
The City of Frederiksberg is responsible for childcare facilities and education from birth until the end of primary school. The local authority guarantees all pre-school age children day-care under its child-minding programme. Between 80% and 90% of all children aged from six months to five years are cared for in this way. In addition, the local authority guarantees that all children from pre-school class to fifth grade of the primary and lower secondary school can attend an after-school centre. 
Care of senior citizens
The local authority of Frederiksberg provides a comprehensive home-help service for elderly and disabled. This includes meals on wheels for old-age pensioners who are not able to shop and cook their own meals, individually adapted aids, and appliances and a wide range of exercise programmes to keep the elderly healthy. In addition, the local authority offers various residential homes for elderly people and special accommodation as well as a selection of day centres and senior citizens' clubs.
Leisure time activities
The city of Frederiksberg provides a wide range of cultural and leisure time activities. Within the boundaries of the city there are five libraries, a large number of sports facilities and swimming baths, children and youth clubs as well as several theatres and museums.
In sum, Frederiksberg has a high level of service provision and a variety of interesting leisure time activities. The city's tax rate, however, remains at a relatively low rate compared to other municipalities in Denmark.
