Zoological Gardens

Copenhagen Zoo was founded in 1859 and has in recent years been undergoing considerable modernisation, e.g. a new elephant house designed by the English architect Sir Norman Foster opened in 2008. The Zoo includes the Tropical House, a large Children's Zoo, an African savannah, a South American pampas etc. The Zoo-tower offers a grand view of Frederiksberg. Also restaurant and kiosk sales as well as facilities for enjoying picnic lunches.

Royal Copenhagen Porcelain 

The world-famous porcelain factory has recently moved from Frederiksberg, but their Factory Sale Shop always has bargain offers on second quality goods.

 

Factory Sale Shop: 9, Søndre Fasanvej. It is open Mon-Fri 10 a.m.-5.30 p.m. and Sat 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

 

Georg Jensen

The world-famous silversmiths have a factory sale shop in Frederiksberg with jewellery, cutlery, watches and gift articles at reasonable prices.

 

Factory Sale Shop: 9, Søndre Fasanvej. It is open Mon-Fri 10 a.m.-5.30 p.m. and Sat 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (same as for Royal Copenhagen).

 

Frederiksberg Church

High above, set slightly back from the traffic at Frederiksberg Runddel, towers the Dutch-inspired Frederiksberg Church, with its eight roof panels and slender spire. The Church is also used for concerts. The church was built in 1734, architect: Felix Dusart.

Frederiksberg Town Hall

Frederiksberg Town Hall was built during the years 1942-53. In addition to administrative rooms, the Town Hall also has a Town Hall auditorium, grand ceremonial hall, Wedding Room, and an assembly hall and library for the Municipal Council. From the Town Hall Tower, which rises 60 metres above street level, there is a unique view over Frederiksberg and across Copenhagen.

There is a regular guided tour on the first Saturday of every month at 1 p.m., starting outside the main entrance to the Town Hall. Special tours by arrangement on application to Frederiksberg Municipality on Tlf. 38 21 21 26.

 

The Cisterns - Museum of Modern Glass Art

Go exploring underground in all three of the 140-year-old former water cisterns beneath Søndermarken Common. The interaction between the works, the unusual spatial surroundings, and the artificial lighting gives the visitor a completely unique experience.

The Storm P. Museum

The Storm P. Museum displays Storm P.'s (the Danish Heath Robinson) drawings and paintings, which range from the social-critical satire of his early years to his later humorous magazine drawings. In addition, the museum houses his extensive pipe collection, his study and glimpses from his acting days.

The Museum of Light Theatre 
Frederiksberg has for many years been the centre of light entertainment, show business and revue. The Museum of Light Theatre houses a unique collection of pictures, theatrical props, costumes, posters and so on from popular entertainment down through the past two hundred years.

The Bakkehus Museum

At the Bakkehus Museum you can travel back to the literary milieu of the Danish Golden Age during the period 1780-1830. Poets and authors like Christian Winther, Adam Oehlenschläger and Hans Christian Andersen would meet with like-minded people at the house, Bakkehuset, which thanks to Kamma and Knud Lyne Rahbek formed a literary focal point for the Golden Age.

Forum
Forum is the year-round setting for exhibitions, concerts, jumble sales and many other organised events. Forum underwent recently a major reconstruction and now satisfies the modern requirements of a multifunctional auditorium.

Møsting's House
One of the capital's most remarkable little exhibition venues is located immediately adjacent to Frederiksberg Park. The house, which was the summer residence for Frederik IV's minister of finance, Johan Sigismund Møsting, was moved from its original site and rebuilt at the present address in 1976.

The Metronome

The Metronome at Aksel Møllers Haven was constructed as a new cultural and exhibition centre in Frederiksberg in 1996. The complex reflects contemporary Danish building and the potential capacity of urban renewal, and is now mainly used for concerts.

Frederiksberg Swimming Baths

Frederiksberg Swimming Baths have both a large and a small pool, a special pool for infants, a hot-water pool, and a 110 metre-long indoor water chute - as well as springboards, dry air and Turkish baths, and a solarium. Other facilities include a fitness and aerobics centre.

 

The newly renovated Baths also offer tempting spa facilities with aroma steam baths, electrical massage-chairs, a temple shower cabinet, salt-water pool etc.

 

Frederiksberg Swimming Baths are otherwise well known for its large mosaics executed by Vilhelm Lundstrøm.

The Baths are open Mon-Fri, 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. However, not all services are open all of the stated time.
