Shopping and dining in Frederiksberg

There are fine and varied shopping possibilities all over Frederiksberg, ranging from small speciality shops over large supermarkets to the Frederiksberg Shopping Centre. The selection is especially wide on the three major shopping streets Gammel Kongevej, Falkoner Allé and Godthåbsvej. These three interconnecting streets cut their way through the central part of Frederiksberg.

Frederiksberg also boasts a large number of cafés, pubs and restaurants - among the latter we can mention Formel B at 128, Vesterbrogade, who received a Michelin-star in 2004. But in general we can offer a very wide range of dining experiences to suit all tastes and pocketbooks.

For those partial to traditional Danish cuisine there are for example the famous family gardens - "The Small Gardens" on or near Pile Allé - facilities for enjoying Danish open sandwiches, beer, aquavit and coffee, often to the accompaniment of live music during the summer season.

If you plan on a picnic in one of the parks, there are many quality take-aways scattered all over Frederiksberg. Værnedamsvej is a street worth visiting if you are a gourmet.

The Frederiksberg stage

The area around Frederiksberg Allé, with its many theatres and a growing number of cafés offering outdoor service, has a Mediterranean charm all of its own.

On Frederiksberg Allé at Cafe Promenaden a tradition of laying special pavement stones, inspired by the stars on Hollywood Blvd., has begun. Until now the Danish actors Niels Olsen, Thomas Eje, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Iben Hjejle, Mads Mikkelsen, Peter Mygind, Bodil Udsen, Anders W. Berthelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Ghita Nørby, Søren Pilmark, Anders Matthesen, Ulf Pilgaard and Lars Mikkelsen have got their own stone.

The following theatres are all situated in Frederiksberg:

Betty Nansen Teatret, -Anneksscenen Edison, Frederiksberg Scenen, Aveny Scenen, Riddersalen-Jytte Abildstrøms Teater, and Falkoner Salen.

Almost all theatre productions are in Danish.
