Frederiksberg has 103.732 inhabitants (The 1st quarter of 2015); 21.851 of those are senior citizens, 60 years or older. 8 men and 38 women are more than 100 years old. The oldest man is 106 years old and the oldest woman is 107 years old.
Frederiksberg has had a senior citizens council since 1994. From 1996, by national law, all municipalities have to arrange elections of senior citizens' councils.
The council is elected for four years by citizens living in the municipality, 60 years or older.
Voting is not limited to Danish nationals. All residents, 60 years or older, living in the municipality, have the right to vote. Voters can vote for persons only. List systems are not allowed.

With regard to the elderly, the 98 municipalities have broad responsibilities, among those rehabilitation and long term care both in own homes and in nursing homes.
The 5 regions' main responsibilities are hospitals, medical practices and health insurance.
The function of the senior citizens' councils in the local democracy of Denmark
By national law, the municipality must consult the senior citizens' council in all cases of importance for the elderly before decisions are taken by the City Council.
The members of the senior citizens' council maintain close contact with the senior citizens and the voluntary organizations and disseminate citizens' concerns to the City Council.
